How to use the Nialli Wall

The Nialli Wall is a multi-touch screen that facilitates collaboration, participation and brainstorming. Multiple WUR students and/or employees can add and edit content on the wall at the same time. The Nialli Wall offers several tools, such as creating digital sticky notes, drawing, and uploading images and documents. The Nialli Wall is present in Aurora's Innovation Room I9236 at the WUR campus. To reserve I9236 or I9236+I9238 (combined rooms), contact [email protected].

Install Nialli Workspace

If this is the first time you use the Nialli Wall, install the Nialli Workspace software.

WUR students

WUR employees

The Nialli Workspace software needs to be installed on your WUR laptop. You cannot install the software in your account via a WUR PC in one of the lecture rooms at WUR.

In the search bar at the bottom of your WUR laptop screen,

  1. Type Software Center or Available Software and open the application
  2. In the application, search for Install Nialli Software
  3. Follow the instructions for installing the Nialli Workspace

Turn on the Nialli Wall

In order to use the Nialli Wall in combination with the Nialli Workspace software, the Wall must be activated.

  1. Open the white cabinet on the wall in room I9236
  2. Press the On button on the PC on the left-hand side
  3. The Nialli Wall remote control, keyboard and mouse are loose. They are either somewhere in the room or in the cabinet

In case no image appears on the Nialli Wall, activate the Nialli Wall beamers:

  • Option 1: Press the On button on the remote control
  • Option 2: Go to the Control Panel on the wall behind the teacher desk. Press Power on System > Control Nialli Wall > Turn the Nialli Wall ON
  1. Log in with your WUR account
  2. Control Nialli Wall volume with the volume buttons on the remote control, or with the Control Panel on the wall behind the teacher desk: Control Nialli Wall > Volume Nialli Wall
  3. Mute picture or audio on the Nialli Wall with the Control Panel on the wall behind the teacher desk: Control Nialli Wall > Picture Mute / Audio Mute

Use Nialli Workspace

The Nialli Workspace software offers several tools, such as creating digital sticky notes, drawing, and uploading images and documents. Read Install Nialli Workspace if you have not installed the software yet. You can use the software in combination with the Nialli Wall, or just on your WUR laptop.

To get started,

  1. Type Nialli Workspace in the search bar at the bottom of the screen of the Nialli Wall or your WUR laptop screen and click on the application
  2. Click on Cloud Workspaces in the menu on the left-hand side
  3. Open an existing workspace, or create a new workspace by clicking on Blank

 In the top-right of the Nialli Workspace screen, there is a ribbon menu:

  1. Click on Hide Tools to hide the toolbar on the left-hand side
  2. Click on Stretch to spread the Nialli Workspace over the two screens of the Nialli Wall
  3. Click on the minimalize icon at the top-right of your workspace to minimalize the workspace screen
  4. Click on the cross at the top-right of your workspace to close off the Nialli Workspace. All changes made are automatically saved in the Nialli Workspace

In a Nialli Workspace there is always a toolbar on the left-hand side. The different tools are explained below:

1. Open

Click on Open to open another workspace

2. Save As

Click on Save As to save the workspace on your computer

3. Section

Click on Section to expand your workspace with a new section.

In the pop-up window that appears,

  1. Choose the location of the new section
  2. Name the new section
  3. Choose the background colour of the new section. You can also browse on your computer for another background
  4. Set Snap to Grid and Auto Expand options
  1. Right-click on the header of a section to delete or edit the section
  2. Use the navigation bar at the bottom of the workspace to scroll through different sections

At the toolbar at the top of your workspace,

  1. Click on the minus icon to minimize a section
  2. Expand the Pen icon to access inking and erasing controls
4. Note

Click on Note to create a new digital sticky note. You can also do this by pressing Enter, by right-clicking on the workspace with the mouse, or by pressing and holding your finger on the workspace on the Nialli Wall screen.

In the pop-up window that appears,

  1. Add text to the note
  2. If desired, add a hyperlink to the note
  3. Choose colour, size, and rotation of the note

Once you have created your notes, you can:

  1. Join notes with the Connector arrow
  2. Drag notes to replace them
  3. Edit or delete notes by right-clicking on notes with the mouse, or pressing and holding them with your finger on the Nialli Wall screen
5. Title

Click on Title to create a new title.  

  1. In the pop-up window, choose the name, colour and size of the title, and add a hyperlink if desired
  2. Edit or delete a title by right-clicking on the title with the mouse, or pressing and holding it with your finger on the Nialli Wall screen
6. Group

A group can be used to group multiple notes together. Click on Group to create a new group.

In the pop-up window that appears,

  1. Add a name to the group
  2. Add a link to the group if desired
  3. Choose the colour and size of the group and set the Auto Expand and Snap to Grid options

Once you have created one or multiple groups, you can:

  1. Join a group to other objects with the Connector arrow
  2. Drag groups to replace them
  3. Edit or delete groups by right-clicking on groups with the mouse, or pressing and holding them with your finger on the Nialli Wall screen
7. File/Image

Click on File/Image to add an image or document to the workspace.

Once you have added an image and/or document to your workspace, you can:

  1. Click on the header of the file or document to move it around the workspace
  2. Drag the blue corner to scale your image or document
  3. Right-click on your image with the mouse, or hold the header of the image with your finger on the Nialli Wall screen to edit the image
  4. Click on the blue arrow in the middle of the right-hand side of your document to scroll through the document
  5. Double-click on the header of your document with the mouse or your finger to view the document pages side by side, and to enable drawing options for on the document
8. Sharing

Click on Sharing to share your workspace with others.

  1. Add users of Nialli Workspace to the workspace with Workspace Users
  2. Invite guests to view or edit the workspace with Anonymous Links

Turn off the Nialli Wall

To close the Nialli Workspace,

  1. Click on the cross at the top-right of your workspace. All changes made are automatically saved in the Nialli Workspace

To turn off the Nialli Wall,

  1. Click on the Windows Start icon at the bottom-left
  2. Click on the Power button
  3. Click on Shut down
  4. Press the Power button on the remote control to turn the Nialli Wall beamers off
