About Intake Interviews: Preparing Your Educational Media
The goal of the intake interview is to find the right media format for your idea and learning objective. To achieve this, one of our instructional designers will discuss the possibilities with you. The following topics will be covered during an intake:

Didactic goals and topic of the course
What learning objective do you want to reach with your video? What is the topic of your knowledge clip? And what is the topic of your course? Who are your students and how many are there? What will be the goal of the knowledge clip and what is the relation between the knowledge clips and the face to face activities in the course?
Lecturer
The presentation of the lecturer determines the quality for a large part. It is therefore discussed what your experience is in front of the camera and what your lecture style is. We will decide together whether it will be desirable if you follow our camera training. Usually this is the case when you are planning to record more than one or two videos.
Script
It is essential that a detailed script is present when we begin recording your knowledge clip. Having a good script is crucial, since the videos will be one-takers (i.e. no editing afterwards). You don't need to memorize your text; we'll display the script on the autocue in the studio. There is an example script available. However, both writing a good script and presenting a script from a autocue are acquired skills. That is why we practice those skills in the camera training mentioned above.
Presentation
Using a (PowerPoint) presentation in your knowledge clip is optional. Designing the perfect presentation for use in a knowledge clip is something that is also discussed in the camera training. Here are the most important points you need to bear in mind:
- Use our templates instead of the standard WUR PowerPoint templates.
- There are several Powerpoint formats to choose from.
- Make sure you use images that you are allowed to use in your video. Check out the document on finding images for knowledge clips.
Costs
Media created for campus education (including support and training) are, in principle, free. If your project is not (strictly) campus education or has a much bigger scope than the average project, the costs of the project will be discussed in the intake meeting.
Planning
Creating a knowledge clip takes time and also requires planning. It takes time to develop the script and presentation for a good clip. Also, you might want to follow a training in advance. Moreover, the studio has to be available and all of the required materials have to be there on the day of the recording. This planning will be (roughly) discussed during an intake. Because the different steps take some time, it will also be discussed when the video will be used in your course, to make sure that it is realistic to finish it in time.
Technical issues
If you have any specific requests or a technically challenging idea, the instructional designer will be joined by a multimedia specialist during the intake. Together they can give you the best advise on how to proceed with developing your knowledge clips.
