How to use filters and advanced search

General information

Hora Finita has different options to search and find information. There are fields in which you can enter a search query, you can apply a filter on overviews in Hora Finita and with Advanced Search you can search for specific, detailed information.

Please note: the availability of search options depends on your role in Hora Finita and on the page you are consulting.
This manual describes how to use the different search options in general.

How to use fields and columns

At the top of an overview, you will find empty fields and the headings of the different columns.
If you want to find specific information: enter a search query (for example the name of the PhD candidate) in the field and click on the magnifying glass or enter.
If you want to change the order of the overview (for example the most recent start date at the top of the list), click on the heading of the corresponding column.

How to search graduated PhD candidates

The PhD projects overview only shows started PhD projects, as default setting. If you want to find graduated and terminated PhD projects as well, click on the X behind active. The overview will then show PhD candidates with the status started, graduated and terminated, in alphabetical order. You can then narrow down your search, for example:

  • If you want to find a specific PhD candidate, enter the name in the search field (and click on the magnifying glass or enter);
  • if you want to have an overview of only graduated PhD candidates, enter 'graduated' in the search field underneath status (enter);
  • if you want to have an overview by status, click on the heading 'status' to order the list into graduated, terminated and started.

How to use a filter on overviews in Hora Finita

You can recognize a filter by the funnel at the top of an overview.

1. Click on 'apply filter' or 'modify active filter' to open the Filter list

2. Click on true or false behind one or more search options

3. Click on Apply

How to search in PhD project registrations

The overview of PhD project registrations shows 'All registrations' as default setting.
You can find a specific PhD candidate by entering the surname and/or email address in the search fields.
For a general overview, click on the drop-down menu underneath Filter status and select one of the options.

How to use Advanced Search

You can use the option Advanced Search if you want to have an overview of specific, detailed information. For example, an overview of the total number of graduated PhD candidates of your chair group within a certain period.

If the Advanced search option is available, you will find the option at the top right of the page.

1. Click on the link Advanced search

2. Click on the grey field

3. Click on the topic

4. Enter the next search controls and information

5. Click on Search.

Please see the image below for an example. With these search controls, Hora Finita will search for all PhD projects of a chair group that are ended or are still ongoing from 01-01-2020 until now.

I cannot find specific information

Some information cannot be generated in Hora Finita, for example an overview of the promotion premiums of your chair group. If you need specific information that you cannot find by using the options above, please contact [email protected].
