What are the Go/NoGo decision and interview?

General information

A Go/NoGo decision is an assessment of elements related to your performance as a PhD candidate. A Go/NoGo meeting with your supervisor(s) is part of the procedure of making this decision. The Go/NoGo meeting has to take place within 15 months after the start of your PhD track.

If the decision is positive (a Go), you can finalize your PhD track. If the decision is negative (a NoGo), you cannot continue with your PhD track.

The Go/NoGo process follows a sequence of steps:
1. Your first supervisor schedules the Go/NoGo interview
2. After the interview has taken place, a member of the supervision team fills in the Go/NoGo form in Hora Finita and enters the Go/NoGo decision
3. After submission of the form and the result by the supervisor, the first supervisor and the chair holder will review the Go/NoGo decision
4. You will receive an email from Hora Finita about the outcome
5. You will receive an email about the form Go/NoGo follow-up. In this questionnaire you have to indicate whether you agree with the decision. Please see the manual How to complete the Follow up Go/NoGo? for more information.

Please note that a positive decision (Go) cannot be submitted if requirements have not yet been fulfilled or the required TSP has not yet been approved. These unfulfilled requirements will be listed on your overview page.

Go/NoGo RA

If you are employed at Wageningen University as PhD candidate, the Go/NoGo interview is called Go/NoGo RA. RA means Research Assistant.
If the decision of your Go/NoGo RA is positive and approved by your first supervisor and the chair holder, the HR department will be informed automatically about the extension of your contract.

If a Go RA-decision is not submitted, HR is not notified about the extension of your contract! This could potentially lead to an unnecessary dismissal when your contract is not extended.

Reminder to schedule the interview

If a definite date for the Go/NoGo interview has not yet been set, you and the other participant(s) of the Go/NoGo meeting will receive a reminder email, with the request for the first supervisor to schedule the interview.

Go

If your Go/NoGo decision is positive (Go) and has been approved by the first supervisor and the chair holder, you will receive an email about the positive outcome.

In case you are employed at Wageningen University, the HR department will receive an email to extend your employment contract.

NoGo

If your Go/NoGo decision was negative (NoGo), you cannot continue your PhD project. You will receive an email about the NoGo.
You have the right to start an appeal procedure. For more information, please see the doctoral regulations or contact your graduate school.

Follow up Go/NoGo

After the submission of the Go/NoGo decision, the milestone 'Follow up Go/NoGo' will be created automatically. Attached to the milestone you will find the questionnaire 'Acknowledgement of receipt'. With this form you have to indicate whether you agree or disagree with the decision taken. You will receive an email about the Follow up Go/NoGo. Please see the manual How to complete the Follow up Go/NoGo? for more information.
