OSIRIS-Lecturer self-study course

All course coordinators and examiners work in OSIRIS-Lecturer. OSIRIS-Lecturer is a browser-based application, also known as a WebApp. It enables you to enter results (final grades) and generate certain ‘reports’, such as a photo list, for the courses that you are linked to.

This training course will discuss several manuals that you can also consult separately. Please be aware that you will be working with real, ‘live’ information rather than test data in this course. This means that, for example, when you enter and digitally sign a result for a student, this student will indeed be awarded that result.

As the manuals for course coordinators and examiners are only written in English, it is convenient to choose the English language in Osiris.

1: Start Osiris

Start Osiris via https://osiris.wur.nl/osiris_docent. Within the WUR network you will be automatically logged in to your account. The welcome screen may contain messages about results that you still need to enter, like in the screenshot below. The steps below will show you how to do this.

Internet browsers to be used: Firefox, Chrome or Edge. Internet Explorer and Safari are causing problems, and might give errors when entering grades.

1. In the menu you can find the link to the Course Catalogue (study handbook).

2. Also the link to all the manuals (instructions) can be found here. If you are a course coordinator or examiner and only have OSIRIS-Lecturer, you should use the manuals under the tile "Osiris for Course Coordinator & Examiner".

2: Create a photo list of the students in your course

3: Create a course participant list of the students in your course, including teaching and test facilities requested

Follow the manual How to make an Excel file of the participants and facilities of the students in my course to create an Excel file with a list of all the students who participate in your course. Some students may have requested special teaching or test facilities via OSIRIS, such as extra time to sit the test. This information will also be included in the list.

4: Enter results for individual students

Follow the manual  How to enter results for individual students? to enter final grades for one or more individual students of your course. If you do not yet want to make the results final (and thus visible to students), you should only follow steps 1-7. You will still be able to change the results as long as they have not been signed (until the deadline for entering grades).

5: Enter results for large groups of students

For large numbers of students it is often quicker to work with a grade input file in Excel than to enter individual final grades. Follow the manual How to make a grade input file to have OSIRIS generate a grade input file for your course.

6: Populate the grade input file with final grades

The grade input file that you created in the previous step now contains a list of students whose final grades still need to be filled in. Open the file in Excel, read the manual What is a grade input file and how to use it? (OSIRIS-Lecturer) and populate the file with final grades. Save the file and close Excel.

7: Enter the results from the grade input file in Osiris

The grade input file that you populated in the previous step now has to be entered into OSIRIS-Lecturer. Follow the manual How to import results with a grade input file. If you do not yet want to make the results final (and thus visible to students), you should only follow steps 1-6.

Conclusion

We have now discussed the most important actions in OSIRIS-Docent and have reached the end of this training course. Finally, it is good to mention three manuals that we have not used in this training course but which, depending on your situation, could be important for you:
