How to use the Writing Tablet (WACOM)
The Writing Tablet (WACOM) is the main display for lecturers while presenting. The Writing Tablet Pen offers options to draw and write on presentations and the digital whiteboard.
This article explains how to:
Get started
To start your presentation on the Writing Tablet, follow these steps:
- Sign in to your WUR account (user name and password) on the Computer
- Check if the Projector is ON on the Control Panel on the wall or on the desk
- Open your PowerPoint file on the Computer
- Start your slide show in PowerPoint
The full screen slide show should be displayed on the Writing Tablet. In case the full screen slide show is displayed on the PC Monitor, follow these steps to swap the views:
- Click on DISPLAY SETTINGS at the top left of the Writing Tablet display
- Click on Swap Presenter View and Slide Show in the drop-down menu

You are now ready to present your PowerPoint slide show.
Use the Writing Tablet Pen
The Writing Tablet Pen can be picked up at the reception of the building. Except in Forum, where the Pen is attached to the side of the Writing Tablet.
Use the Writing Tablet Pen to write or draw in your PowerPoint slides during your presentation, and as a mouse for clicking actions.
Enable the writing function of the Writing Tablet Pen to write on your PowerPoint slides during your presentation:
- Open your presentation and start your slide show in PowerPoint
- Click on the pen icon at the bottom left of the presenter view
- Click on Pen in the drop-down menu
The full screen slide show should be displayed on the Writing Tablet. In case the full screen slide show is displayed on the PC Monitor,
- Click on DISPLAY SETTINGS at the top left of the Writing Tablet Display
- Click on Swap Presenter View and Slide Show in the drop-down menu
You are now able to write on the slides of your PowerPoint presentation while presenting.
The Writing Tablet Pen also has clicking functions, just like a mouse.
To click,
- Tap on the Writing Tablet display with the tip of the Writing Tablet Pen
To right-click,
- Hold the upper part of the button on the Writing Tablet Pen
- Tap on the Writing Tablet display with the tip of the Writing Tablet Pen
To double-click,
- Quickly tap the Writing Tablet display twice in the same place with the tip of the Writing Tablet Pen
To hover the cursor,
- Move the Writing Tablet Pen slightly above the Writing Tablet display without touching the display
To use the Writing Tablet as a digital whiteboard, follow these steps:
- Type HD-board Software v9 in the search bar at the bottom of the computer screen
- Click on the HD-board Software v9 application
- Click on the blue icon with the white arrow (without logging in)
The Dual Pen menu appears. From the menu,
- Click on the Window Mode icon
- A white screen appears on which you can draw with the Writing Tablet Pen
- Use the menu at the bottom of the screen or the Dual Pen menu to choose pen functions
Besides the digital whiteboard, the Dual Pen menu from HD-board Software v9 offers other tools, such as a ruler, a camera, and making annotations on websites.
Calibrate the Writing Tablet Pen
Sometimes the position of the Writing Tablet Pen on the Writing Tablet display is not in line with the place of drawing or the position of the cursor on the display. To align the position of the Pen to the position of drawing or the cursor on the display, calibrate the Writing Tablet Pen.
To calibrate the Writing Tablet Pen, follow these steps:
- Press the lower part of the button on the Writing Tablet Pen while holding the Pen slightly above the Writing Tablet display
A circle-shaped Express Menu appears. From the menu,
- Click Settings
A dark-gray window appears,
- Click on the black bar with white outlining
A window appears showing Wacom Tablet Properties. From this window,
- Click on Calibrate.
- Click on Calibrate... and follow the instructions on the screen
The calibration instructions should appear on the Writing Tablet display. If the instructions appear on the PC Monitor, leave the calibration window by pressing the Esc key on the top left of your keyboard. In the Wacom Tablet Properties window, change the option for the Monitor from Generic PnP Monitor 1 to Generic PnP Monitor 2, or the other way around. Click on Calibrate... again and follow the instructions on the Writing Tablet display.
- Click on OK
You have now calibrated the Writing Tablet Pen to the Writing Tablet Display.
Save notes made in PowerPoint
After presenting your PowerPoint presentation, you can save the writings and drawings you have created on your slides during presenting.
To end your PowerPoint presentation,
- Go to the last, black slide of your presentation, or press Esc on the top left of your keyboard
- Click on Keep in the pop-up window
You can now save the changes you have made to your presentation.
- Click on File at the top left of the PowerPoint window
- Click on Save As in the drop-down menu, and choose a name you want to give to your presentation. If you do not change the name of the presentation, the old presentation will be replaced by the presentation with notes.
Your presentation with notes is now saved.
Finish up
Do not shut down the Computer! Just sign out.
To sign out on the Computer,
- Click on the Windows Start icon at the bottom left of the Computer display
- Click on your account name
- Click on Sign Out
