How to use result grade codes?

Result grades

To enter grades to the grades input file, you need to know the codes for the input. This table gives these codes and information how to use them.

It is also very important to read the rules on which test date to use in the manual What 'Test date' do I use at grade entry?

**  Example 1:

Final grading is based on a written exam with open questions (60%) and a group paper (n=4; 40%). For both components a minimum pass mark of 5.50 is required. Re-submission of an improved version of an insufficiently graded group paper is possible in the resit periods of Wageningen University. The grades for the exam and the group paper are valid until and including the academic year following on the year in which they were obtained.

One student scored a 7.8 for the group paper. For the written exam, this student scores a 4.2. In Osiris, a 4 is recorded as the final result. Reasoning: Because the student scored less than a 5.5 for the written exam, the set requirements are not met. Therefore, you can NOT calculate the final result in this case (0.4x7.8+0.6x4.2 = 5.64-->6.0), because then the student would get a 6 and that is not possible with a 4.2 score for the written exam. The partial result that determines that the student does not meet the set requirements for the course is recorded in Osiris. Recorded result = 4.

Example 2:

Final grading is based on an individual paper (40%), two practical reports (groups of 2 or 3, 20% each) and a group assignment (n=4, 20%). For the individual paper and the group assignment a minimum pass mark of 5.5 is required. Partial grades are valid until and including the academic year following on the year in which they were obtained. In case of an insufficient grade for the individual paper and/or the group assignment, an improved version can be handed in once. Consult the course coordinator for the re-submission deadlines of insufficiently graded papers and assignments. If again insufficient, a new paper or assignment is required during the next course run.

One student scored a 5.2 for the individual paper. For the two practical reports, this student scores a 6.5 and a 7.5. And for the group assignment, a 3.8 is scored. In Osiris, a 4 is recorded as the final result. Reasoning: Because the student scores less than the required 5.5 for both the individual paper and the group assignment, the set requirements are not met. Therefore, you can NOT calculate the final result in this case (0.4x5.2+0.2x6.5+0.2x7.5+0.2x3.8 = 5.64-->6.0), because then the student would get a 6 and that is not correct because the partial marks do not meet the requirement of at least 5.5. The lowest partial result that determines that the student does not meet the set requirements for the course is recorded in Osiris. Recorded result = 4.

Changes compared to former situation

  • "Ill" and "Declined on request" are combined in NOGRADE
  • NOSHOW is no longer penalized with a registration block for 180-days for another test attempt. It is now only intended as an indication
  • Only use INCOMPL (=Partially finished) if the student has completed a part of the course or has received individual supervision!
  • If a student withdraws on time, no result has to be given, see: How to disenrol a student from a course - via course search?
  • Corrections can only be made by Student Service Center ([email protected])
  • In the study progress overview, students do not see any alphanumeric codes, they are all displayed as INSUFF

If a course has been taken elsewhere (so NOT at Wageningen University), then the result will be recorded by the Examining Board.

Don't use spaces in NOGRADE and NOSHOW!
