HTML Editor | How to set up Creator+

Making learning content more interactive can help students to be more engaged and motivated to learn.

Brightspace Creator+ is a content authoring package that provides opportunities for teachers to create interactive and engaging content in their Brightspace content in the HTML Editor.

How to access Creator+

  1. Navigate to Content in your course
  2. Navigate to the module where you want to add Creator+
  3. Click Upload/Create

A drop-down menu will open

  1. Click Create a File
Navigate to Content in your course, Navigate to the module where you want to add Creator+, Click Upload/Create. A drop-down menu will open, Click Create a File

This will lead you to the HTML editor where you can insert a Creator+ Practice or Element.

How to insert a Practice

In the HTML editor:

  1. Insert a title 
  2. Click the + (Other Insert Options) button, then
  3. Click on Insert Practice

A pop-up window will open, where you can select any of the following options:

Overview of the practice

Creator+ Practices cannot be linked to the Gradebook.

2. Fill in the Blanks

Fill in the Blanks allows students to complete a text with missing words.

  1. Insert a title
  2. Insert a Short Description for Creator view only
  3. Type the instruction to provide context for the students
  4. Write the text where the students need to fill in the blanks following the format suggested

 

3. Multi-Select

Multi-Select allows students to select more than one option from the ones provided to answer the question.

  1. Insert a title
  2. Insert a Short Description for Creator view only
  3. Type the question
  4. Click on Add Image to insert an image for the question text (optional)
  5. Write the different answer options
  6. Thick the box of the correct answers
  7. Click on Add Image to insert images for the answers (optional)
  8. Click on Add Answers to insert more options

 

4. Multiple Choice

Multi Choice allows students to select one option from the ones provided to answer the question.

  1. Insert a title
  2. Insert a Short Description for Creator view only
  3. Type the question
  4. (Optional) Click on Add Image to insert an image for the question text
  5. Write the different answer options
  6. Thick the box of the correct answer
  7. (Optional) Click on Add Image to insert images for the answers
  8. Click on Add Answers to insert more options
5. Sequencing

Sequencing allows students to organize steps and items according to the instruction.

  1. Insert a title
  2. Insert a Short Description for Creator view only
  3. Type the instruction
  4. Thick the box to display the Numeric Sequence
  5. Add a name for the Sequence Step
  6. Add a name for the Sequenceable Item
  7. (Optional) Click on Add Image to insert images for the Sequence Step
  8. (Optional) Click on Add Image to insert images for the Sequenceable Item
  9. Click on Add Sequence Step to insert more options

 

6. Sorting

Sorting allows students to place sortable items under the right categories.

  1. Insert a title
  2. Insert a Short Description for Creator view only
  3. Type the instruction
  4. Thick the box to display the Item Count per Category
  5. Add a name for the Cateory Labels
  6. (Optional) Click on Add Image to insert images for the Category Label
  7. Add a name for the Sortable Items
  8. (Optional) Click on Add Image to insert images for the Sortable Item
  9. 9. Click on Add Sortable Item to insert more options

 

7. True or False

True or False allows students to determine if a statement is True or False.

  1. Enter a Title
  2. Insert a Short Description for Creator view only
  3. Type the question into Question Text
  4. Tick the box of the correct answer

 

As soon as you finish editing the item:

  1. Click on Insert
Click on Insert to add the practice in your file
  1. This action will take you to the following dialog box. Click on the X button shown below:

6. Click on Save and Close

How to insert an Element

In the HTML editor:

  1. Insert a title
  2. Click the + (Other Insert Options) button, then
  3. Click on Insert Element

1. Accordion

Accordion allows the students to focus on learning the list first, then expanding their understanding by opening each accordion.

  1. Select format options
    • Numbered
    • Unumbered
  2. Type the instructions
  3. Insert accordion item title
  4. Insert accordion content
  5. Click on Add Accordion Item to insert more options

 

2. Tabs

Tabs provide students with information that belongs in a series.

  1. Select Format Options
    • Horizontal, or
    • Vertical
  2. Type the Learner Instructions
  3. Insert tab title
  4. Insert tab content
  5. (Optional) Click on Add Image to insert an image
  6. Click on Add Tab Item to insert more options

3. Click and Reveal

Click and Reveal presents students a question, statement, or fact to reflect on before they select a button to reveal the key learning related to the original statement.

  1. Select Format Options:
    • No Icon
    • Question
  2. Type an Introductory Content
  3. Type the Learner Instructions
  4. Insert a Button Label
  5. Insert Revealed Content

4. Callout

Callout draws attention to a key detail or an aside to the primary content, like a case study, definition, or anecdote.

  1. Select Format Options
  2. Insert a title
  3. Insert the Callout Content

5. Timeline

Timeline shows events over a period of time, the steps in a process, or items in a series.

  1. Select Format Options
  2. Type an Introductory Content
  3. Type the Learner Instructions
  4. Click on Add Tab Item to insert more options

6. Stylized Quote

Stylized Quote uses large, stylized quotation marks and color to set it apart from the primary content.

  1. Select Format Options
  2. Insert the Quotation
  3. Insert the Attribution

7. Flip Cards

Flip Cards display a collection of items, that do not necessarily have a strict structure in their relationship to one another.

  1. Type the Learner Instructions
  2. (Optional) Insert the card Title, Content and Image in the front side of the card
  3. (Optional) Insert the card Title, Content and Image in the back side of the card
  4. Click on Add Row to insert more options

9. Hotspot

Hotspot allows you to upload an image and assign “hotspots” that learners can select and open to learn more.

With this Element, you can easily add interactive hotspot markers to any image. You can use Hotspots to add further learning to the content of an image or inform learners as they navigate a complex graphic.

When learners select a hotspot marker, a modal will launch providing additional learning materials, like additional images, text descriptions, videos, or links to other learning resources. You can set up hotspots by following these steps:

  1. You may choose to keep the suggested Learners instruction or create your own. Learner instructions appear immediately above a dynamic element to ensure learners know there’s a selectable element to engage with.
  2. Click on 'Add Image, a dialog box appears through which you may upload an image and type the associated alt text, then click save
  3. Once uploading is complete, click on any specific location on the image where you wish to insert a hotspot. This action will create the hotspot which will be listed next to he image on the right and automatically named ''Hotspot 1"
  1. Give a name to the hotspot
  2. Insert any text or hyperlinks that you wish learners to see when they select the hotspot
  3. Use this option to choose a hotspot marker icon from the range offered
  4. Select preview, if you wish to see how it appears to learners and then click on save and insert

As soon as you finish editing the element to proceed:

  1. Click on Preview
Click on Preview

This action will open a preview window, where you can check how the element would look like. If the result is the one wanted:

  1. Click on Insert

This action will add the item in the HTML and take you back to the HTML Editor page

Click on insert

You can use the Back button to adjust the element before adding it.

  1. Once back in the HTML Editor page, click on Save and Close

If there are multiple cards, learners are able to navigate through them by using the arrow icon located in the top right corner of the carousel

6.Once back in the HTML Editor page, click on Save and Close
